Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most about the app, the CCSE exam and the Spanish citizenship process.

About the app

Is it an official app?

No. It is an independent app, not affiliated with the Instituto Cervantes or the Spanish Ministry of Justice. To register for the exam, use the official Instituto Cervantes website.

Are they the same questions as the exam?

No. They are 252 original questions on the same topics and with the same split by task. Each one explains the answer and cites the law or source.

How much does it cost?

You can download it for free and practise with 50 questions, one mock exam, translation help and the full application tracker. Full access is a one-off payment of €7.99 (€4.99 at launch), with no subscription or ads. Beta testers get it for free.

When can I download it?

We will first open a beta on Google Play. Join the list and we will tell you how to take part; the App Store version comes later. In the meantime, you can take the free test on this website.

Will it help if my Spanish is not perfect?

Yes. You can see each question, its options and the explanation in English, French or Arabic. The exam is in Spanish, so it is worth practising without translation too.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The whole question bank is inside the app, so you can study without a connection.

Do I need an account? What data does it collect?

There are no accounts. The app collects no personal data and uses no servers: your progress, dates and documents are stored only on your phone.

What does “My application” do?

It lets you log each step with its date (CCSE, DELE, application, requests for documents, decision, oath and ID card) and tells you how long you have been waiting since you applied. It also reminds you before your documents expire.

Are the questions up to date?

Each question is written from the Constitution, current laws and official sources, and cites its source so you can check it. We review the bank when the rules change.

About the exam and the process

What is the CCSE exam?

It is the test of constitutional and sociocultural knowledge of Spain. It is run by the Instituto Cervantes and you must pass it to apply for citizenship by residence, unless you are exempt.

How many questions does the CCSE have and how many must I get right?

It has 25 questions and lasts 45 minutes. You pass with 15 correct answers. Wrong answers do not subtract points.

How long do I need to prepare?

It depends on where you start. The app spreads your study until your exam date: with a month ahead, about ten new questions a day plus reviews are enough to cover the whole bank.

Do I also need the DELE A2?

Yes, unless you are a national of a country where Spanish is an official language or have another exemption.

How long does Spanish citizenship take?

The legal deadline for a decision is one year from when the application reaches the competent office, but in practice it often takes longer.
